How to add more notification toggles to our Samsung Galaxy Core GT I8262

How to add more notification toggles to our Samsung Galaxy Core GT I8262

Notice: You should be running on stock android to do this. This requires root and although its not so risky but it is always better to have a backup. Also please do not blame me if you softbrick your device.. Do at your own risk!! It worked for me and it should work for anyone running stock rooted like I am.

Okay.. so, heres what you need:
(1) Rooted Galaxy Core in Easy Way
(2) Sqlite editor app

Dts all!!

So heres what you need to do:
(1) Open sqlite and give root permission. It should show a list
(2) Scroll down to "Settings Storage" and open it
(3) Open "Settings.db"
(4) Next, tap "System"
(5) Scroll down until you find "notification_panel_active_app_list" NOT the notification_panel_default_active_app_list.Tap it. If its not present (well... it was not present for me atleast)(Make sure to Check Properly),then tap the menu key and then tap new record. Set the name to "notification_panel_active_app_list" and under value type the following.
Code:
Wifi;Location;SilentMode;Bluetooth;MobileData;AutoRotate;WiFiHotspot;SmartStay;AirplaneMode;DormantMode;PowerSaving;DrivingMode;Sync
Note that the above letters should be CaSe sEnsItiVe and no spaces
(6) ReBoot
(7) Congratzz... U have successfully customized the notification panel..

You can press the thanks button if you think ive helped you as ive researched alot on this.. This is my first post here and i hope to see some warm welcomes
If you have any questions regarding this then im always ready to help..

Thank you,
Ansley

GIGABYTE X99 SOC Champion Debuts at CES 2015 with One More WR Under its Belt

GIGABYTE X99 SOC Champion Debuts at CES 2015 with One More WR Under its Belt

Today, Jan. 5th 2015, GIGABYTE held it’s pre-CES Press Event in the Caesar’s Palace Neopolitan ballroom. One of the main focus of that event was the launch of a new overclocking board, the GIGABYTE X99-SOC Champion.
X99-SOC-Champion-Rev10X99-SOC_Champion  image

 http://www.gigabyte.us/press-center/news-page.aspx?nid=1342
One of the main feature of the X99 SOC Champion is the SMT mounted DIMMs for improved signal quality and their location which is closer to the CPU socket. The DIMM’s shorter trace path enables the DDR4 memory to communicate faster with the CPU, enabling the overclockers to reach higher DDR4 memory frequencies. Additionally, the motherboard includes a CPU Mode Switch; this switch allows the overclockers to switch between CPU default socket mode and OC socket mode.
The Press Event was crown by a live overclocking demonstration held by GIGABYTE famous overclockers Dinos22, Sofos1990 and HiCookie. The skilled trio managed to impress the crowd with a 1 World Record, 3 Global First and 3 Hardware First on the X99-SOC Champion! Nice going guys! Here are the submissions:

How to Make More Secure Your Phone- Some Useful Android Apps to Create Strong Passwords

With so many new services that keep springing up every day, creating a strong, unique password for each service becomes a little difficult by the day. You can always use a number of combinations, but it’s not always possible to remember them and create really strong passwords.

To help you with creating strong passwords, third-party developers have released a wide range of apps for Android. As a longtime 1Password and LastPass user, I still end up using other third party apps to create passwords. If you are of the kind that does not want to save passwords with third-party apps and sites, we have a list of apps you can use. These apps will just help you create a strong password without any feature to save them in the app – locally or in the cloud.

Create Strong Passwords With These Free Apps

1. Passera

Starting off with a completely open-source and ad-free app, Passera comes out on top for its simplicity and transparency. If you’re using a tool as sensitive as a password generator, transparency comes first.
Passera.jpg (600×526)

Passera’s main feature is that the app sets password difficulty depending on the website or your hints. It can then generate passwords up to 64 characters in length. This may be overkill for most, so the app allows you to set the character length as well. The other unique feature of Passera is that the app lets you input a passphrase. Simply put, you could enter your favourite line in Passera, and it will use this phrase to generate a unique password. The generated password is not only strong, it is secured using your passphrase and the character length as well.
Passera is available on other platforms as well – check out the Github page of the app here. It is not available on Play Store, though. You will have to use F-Droid, the most popular and open-source third-party app repository for Android.
Download Passera from F-Droid

2. Password Creator

Password Creator is a beautiful, Material Design app. It also comes with a lot of options – you can choose if you want to use numbers, letters, special characters and so on. The app also lets you set a character length.
Password-Creator.png (600×472)
Apart from letting you create passwords, Password Creator will also let you save them in the app. However, if you are not looking for this feature, you can safely ignore it.
Password Creator is available for free in the Play Store. A $1 in-app purchase unlocks the ability to save unlimited passwords, among other things.

3. Random Password Generator

Random-Password-Generator.jpg (600×525)

Random Password Generator is self-descriptive. The app lets you generate a random password every time you try. This app does the basics well, without any extra abilities. Customizations are present, though – you can choose if you want to use alphabets, numbers, special characters and set password length as well.

4. Hash It

Hash-It.jpg (600×524)

If you are still looking for options, you may like Hash It. This app lets you enter the name of the site and a hint/passphrase to help you generate a unique, strong password. It’s akin to Passera but slightly less unique. If you enter a generic name/phrase, Hash It will generate the same password.
Instead, Hash It developer advises you to use custom passphrases. So as long as your phrases are really weird/unique, Hash It will continue to generate unique passwords.

How To Get A Unity Like HUD Searchable Menu In Xubuntu Ubuntu MATE Linux Mint More

How To Get A Unity Like HUD Searchable Menu In Xubuntu Ubuntu MATE Linux Mint More

Youre probably familiar with the Unity HUD, or Head-Up Display, which lets you search through and applications menu. Thanks to Rafael Bocquets i3-hud-menu (and J.A. McNaughtons fork), you can use this menu search feature in pretty much any desktop environment (and in any Linux distribution in which you can install unity-gtk-module).

i3-hud-menu allows searching and navigating through an applications menu using the keyboard, with the use of dmenu (dmenu doesnt have mouse support by default). Heres how it looks like in Xubuntu 16.04:

i3-menu-hud Xubuntu

And in Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon:

i3-menu-hud Linux Mint Cinnamon

i3-hud-menu works with GTK2, GTK3 (but not client-side decorated apps) and Qt4 applications.

The tool is buggy with Qt5 applications as well as LibreOffice - see the limitations / issues section below for more information.

Important: issues and limitations

i3-hud-menu has quite a few issues / limitations but I decided to post an article about it anyway since some of you might still find it useful.

Also, Im hoping someone reading this article might be able to fix or at least come up with some workarounds for some of the issues below. If you do, please let us know in the comments!

i3-hud-menu limitations / issues:
  • it doesnt work with client-side decorated applications;
  • it doesnt work with Firefox or Thunderbird;
  • it doesnt work with Qt5 apps (make sure appmenu-qt5 and libdbusmenu-qt5 are not installed or else you wont have a menu for Qt5 apps, such as VLC in Ubuntu 16.04 - if you do install those packages, you can use the menu via i3-hud-menu, but the actual menu wont be visible in the application);
  • using it, LibreOffice no longer has a menu if the "libreoffice-gtk" package is installed - this package is used for GTK+ integration (though using i3-hud-menu, you can search the menu, but actually using the menu items doesnt work for some reason);
  • to get i3-hud-menu to work with Java swing applications, youll need JAyatana;
  • probably more.

It appears that the LibreOffice and the Qt5 applications issue occur because "APPMENU_DISPLAY_BOTH=1" is not respected. Furthermore, using "UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=" (for example, using "UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= libreoffice --writer") or blacklisting it via Dconf Editor (com > canonical > unity-gtk-module > blacklist) doesnt get the LibreOffice menu to show up.

On Arch Linux (possibly in other Linux distributions as well), which requires the unity-gtk-module-standalone-bzr package, you need to run the following command (or change this via Dconf Editor: com > canonical > unity-gtk-module, set gtk2-shell-shows-menubar to "false") and reboot to ensure that menus are displayed in GTK applications:
gsettings set com.canonical.unity-gtk-module gtk2-shell-shows-menubar false

Install and configure i3-hud-menu

Important note: I included exact instructions for Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE and Linux Mint Cinnamon edition, but this should work with any Ubuntu or Linux Mint flavor (14.04 and newer only). It may also work in other Linux distributions, as long as you can install unity-gtk-module and appmenu-qt.

1. Install the required dependencies: python3, python-dbus, dmenu, appmenu-qt and unity-gtk-module.

In Ubuntu (14.04 and newer), use the following command (will also install "wget", required under step 2):
sudo apt install python3 python-dbus dmenu appmenu-qt unity-gtk2-module unity-gtk3-module wget

2. Download and install i3-hud-menu

To download and install J.A. McNaughtons i3-hud-menu fork from the command line, use the following commands:
cd /tmp
wget https://github.com/jamcnaughton/i3-hud-menu/archive/master.tar.gz
tar -xvf master.tar.gz
sudo mkdir -p /opt/i3-hud-menu
sudo cp -r i3-hud-menu-master/* /opt/i3-hud-menu/

If you want to install it yourself, grab the code from GitHub (but note that the instructions below assume that youve installed i3-hud-menu in /opt/i3-hud-menu/)

3. Load the Unity gtk module

Open ~/.profile with a text editor (".profile" is a hidden file in your home folder so use Ctrl + H to see hidden files in your gile manager), paste the following at the end of the file:
export APPMENU_DISPLAY_BOTH=1
if [ -n "$GTK_MODULES" ]
then
GTK_MODULES="$GTK_MODULES:unity-gtk-module"
else
GTK_MODULES="unity-gtk-module"
fi

if [ -z "$UBUNTU_MENUPROXY" ]
then
UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=1
fi

export GTK_MODULES
export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY
... and save the file.

If after completing all the steps below, i3-hud-menu doesnt work, you can try to paste the lines above in ~/.bashrc instead of ~/.profile.

4. Add i3-appmenu-service.py to startup

The next step is to add i3-appmenu-service.py to the system startup. If youve installed i3-hud-menu using the commands above, this file should be located in /opt/i3-hud-menu/

Xubuntu: To add i3-appmenu-service.py to startup, launch Session and Startup from the menu / System Settings, and on the "Application Autostart" tab click "Add", enter "i3 menu service" under "Name", and "/opt/i3-hud-menu/i3-appmenu-service.py" (without the quotes) under "Command":

Ubuntu MATE: launch Control Center and open Startup Applications, click "Add", use "i3 menu service" under "Name", and "/opt/i3-hud-menu/i3-appmenu-service.py" (without the quotes) under "Command", and click "Add":

Linux Mint (Cinnamon): launch Startup Applications from the menu, click Add > Custom Command, use "i3 menu service" under "Name", and "/opt/i3-hud-menu/i3-appmenu-service.py" (without the quotes) under "Command", and click "Add":

5. Assign a keyboard shortcut to i3-hud-menu.py

The keyboard shortcut you assign to i3-hud-menu.py will be used to open i3-hud-menu and search through an applications menu. Heres how to configure it in some Ubuntu flavors and Linux Mint (Cinnamon).

Xubuntu: open "Keyboard" from the menu / System Settings, and on the "Application Shortcuts" tab, click "Add". Use "/opt/i3-hud-menu/i3-hud-menu.py" (without the quotes; if youve installed i3-hud-menu to a different location, make sure you use the correct path) for the command, click "OK:

... and assign it a keyboard shortcut:

You can even use "Alt", like in Ubuntu (with Unity), but I dont recommend it as you wont be able to use other shortcuts that use Alt. You can use something like Alt + 1 or any other keyboard shortcut thats not already in use.

Ubuntu MATE: from Control Center open Keyboard Shortcuts, click "Add", under "Name" enter "i3-hud-menu" (without the quotes), and use "/opt/i3-hud-menu/i3-hud-menu.py" (without the quotes; if youve installed i3-hud-menu to a different location, make sure you use the correct path) for "Command":

... and assign it a keyboard shortcut. Note that unlike Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE doesnt allow assigning Alt as a shortcut. You can use something like Alt + 1 or whatever other keyboard shortcut you want, but make sure its not already in use.

Linux Mint (Cinnamon): launch Keyboard from the menu, click "Add custom shortcut", enter "i3-hud-menu" (without the quotes) under "Name", "/opt/i3-hud-menu/i3-hud-menu.py" (without the quotes; if youve installed i3-hud-menu to a different location, make sure you use the correct path) under "Command" and click "Add":

... and assign it a keyboard shortcut.

6. And finally, restart the session (logout/login), focus an application and use the keyboard shortcut you set in step 5 to open i3-hud-menu.

Get more out of your netbooks screen

Get more out of your netbooks screen

My last laptop before my I purchased my Eee PC was a Lenovo Thinkpad T60P which I bought for three reasons; 1) it was linux certified, 2) the price was right (under $250) and 3) it came with a legit copy of XP Pro.  My one and ONLY complaint I ever had about that laptop was the fact that the screen resolution was a maximum 1024x768.  However, when running OpenSUSE I found that the resolution defaulted to a much higher resolution, scaled by xrandr.  I never did figure out how this was achieved until this morning, whcn I discovered that xrandr is capable of both scaling and panning higher resolutions.  It dawned on me that if you can run a virtual Xserver in a higher resolution than what is natively supported by your screen, something I came across when running Ubuntu on my Android phone.

It took a little experimentation and tweaking to get it just right, but the final result I came up with was the following command
xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1024x600 --scale 1.333x1.333 --panning 1365x800
 The big issue in the end turned out to be the scaling factor.  Originally I assumed that xrandr only supported two decimal points in scale factor, which turned out not to be the case.  What originally prompted me to want a higher resolution was the fact that running certain applications when the window is maximized causes the window to "snap" up and down if the window is larger than the screen size.  At first I was aiming for a resolution 1280 width resolution, but the issue with the snapping windows was not alleviated.  Apparently the gnome desktop is designed for a minimum screen height of 800 pixels and many applications wont play nice in anything smaller than that.  Of course even higher resolutions can be achieved, but the small size of the screen makes the text hard enough to read as it is.  Bumping font sizes up to 12pt makes the screen a little easier to read without distorting things.

After finding a resolution that works for you, there are two methods I know of that will make the resolution change permanent.  The first is to add the above command to your ~/.xprofile file.  The other is to add it t/etc/gdm/Init/Default.  The second option requires root access and will affect every user who logs in to the computer.  I just chose to edit my .xprofile.

Now to see if I can do the same on Windows 7....

EDIT

So after achieving my desired resolution of 1365x800 in Linux and addressing my issues with fullscreen applications on the tiny screen, I decided to take a crack at doing the same on Windows 7.  I did an exhaustive Google search on how to force a higher resolution, but for the most part I came up empty handed. What I did find however was the fact that I have an Intel graphics chip meant that I was in luck.  For those of you who have ATI or Nvidia graphics on you netbook, youre pretty much stuck with the 1024x600 resolution.

Flat out, I was unable to achieve a resolution anywhere near what I got in Linux.  I even tried an app called "Netbook Resolution Customizer" which is supposedly capable of forcing custom resolution modes using Linux modelines (use the command cvt to generate one).  NRC does absolutely nothing.  However, I was at the very least able to force 1024x768.  Not exactly what I was after, and the screen does get skewed but Ill take what I can get.  This is achieved through simple registry hacks.  Basically, you just open up regedit.exe and search for Display1_DownScalingSupported.  Change every instance that the search finds from 0 to 1 and then reboot.  The information I found on this hack states that its supposed to enable resolution up to 1152x864, which albeit skewed is much better than 1024x600.  I did not get anything higher than 1024x768 but like I said, Ill take what I can get.
