GTK3 Tiling Terminal Emulator Terminix 1 1 0 Beta Released With UI Changes Background Image Support

Almost two months after its first stable version, Terminix 1.1.0 beta was released today, bringing UI changes, support for background images and more.

In case youre not familiar with Terminix, this is a GTK3 tiling terminal emulator. The application allows splitting terminals, both horizontally and vertically (which can be re-arranged using dragndrop), and it features options to save and restore the layouts.

The most important change in the latest Terminix 1.1.0 is probably the redesign of some parts of the application, making it less cluttered and more intuitive.

For instance, until now you had to look into a terminals title or context menu to create a new horizontal or vertical terminal split. Thats no longer the case and in Terminix 1.1.0 beta, there are two headerbar buttons that allow you to add a new terminal to the right or down.

Other UI changes include the addition of a find button in the headerbar, decluttered terminal menu, the session button no longer uses the new tab icon, which was confusing, and more.

Download Terminix (source code and 64-bit binary - requires GTK 3.14+ and GTK VTE Widget 0.42, available with Ubuntu 15.04+)

To install the latest Terminix ~~1.1.0 beta~~ 1.2.0 64bit binary in Ubuntu (15.04, 15.10, 16.04 or 16.10) or Linux Mint 18, you can use the following commands:

How To Install Cinnamon 3 0 In Ubuntu 16 04 Or 15 10 Via PPA

Cinnamon 3.0 was released yesterday and it includes improved GTK+ 3.20 support, new accessibility and sound settings and more.

Cinnamon is a GTK3 desktop environment, initially started as a fork of GNOME Shell, which is used by default in Linux Mint Cinnamon edition. Among its features are:

panel with a menu, launchers, window list, system tray;
support for panel applets and desktop widgets (Desklets);
supports desktop animations and transition effects;
highly configurable: users can customize the panel (besides applets, the panel supports autohide and the panel layout can be changed: you can use one panel or two panels like the old GNOME 2 layout), easily change themes, customize desktop animations, hot corners, etc.;
much more.

Changes in Cinnamon 3.0 include:

window management improvements on tiling, mapping and unmapping windows, compositor’s window groups and tracking of full screen windows
improved out of the box touchpad support (edge-scrolling and two-finger-scrolling can now be configured independently and are both enabled by default)
new accessibility and sound settings (both rewritten as native cinnamon-settings modules)
battery powered devices can be renamed
different favorite applications can now be set for plain-text, documents and source code files
panel launchers now include application actions
animation effects are now enabled by default on dialogs and menus
favorites and system options can now be disabled in the menu applet
the photo-frame desklet now also scans subdirectories
improved support for GTK 3.20, Spotify 0.27, Viber

Cinnamon 3.0 will be included with Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon edition. Its not yet clear if it will be available for Linux Mint 17.3, but I assume thats pretty difficult to achieve, considering that Linux Mint 17.3 is based on Ubuntu 14.04 which uses a pretty old GTK+ version (3.10).

Update: Clem mentioned in a comment that "versions 3.0, 3.2, 3.4 and 3.6 are targeting Mint 18.x.", so Linux Mint 17.x users wont be getting Cinnamon 3.x.

Note that in the screenshots above, Im using the new Linux Mint Mint Y GTK and icon themes as well as the Linux Mint Cinnamon theme. Youll find download links for these below, under "Cinnamon 3.0 tweaks for Ubuntu".

Install Cinnamon 3.0 in Ubuntu 16.04 or 15.10 via PPA

Important: if you want to install Cinnamon in Ubuntu and youre using the WebUpd8 Nemo PPA, purge that PPA before proceeding. Also, dont add this PPA if you use Linux Mint.

The PPAs that uses to provide Cinnamon stable werent updated with the latest Cinnamon 3.0. I did find 2 PPAs with Cinnamon 3.0:

Sunderland93s Cinnamon PPA (Ubuntu 16.04 only - its still in the process of being updated at the time Im writing this article)
embrosyns Cinnamon PPA (for Ubuntu 16.04 and 15.10)

Theres also the Cinnamon Nightly Builds PPA, but its not recommended for regular users because it contains untested / unstable code from Git!

For the instructions below Im using embrosyns Cinnamon stable PPA.

To add the PPA and install Cinnamon 3.0 in Ubuntu 16.04 or 15.10, use the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:embrosyn/cinnamon
sudo apt update
sudo apt install cinnamon blueberry

Once installed, log out and select Cinnamon from the login screen:

Tweaks

1. Themes

In Ubuntu 16.04, Ambiance and Radiance themes have some issues in Cinnamon, like missing shadows for CSD apps.

However, there are quite a few themes out there that should work properly in Cinnamon, like Numix GTK Theme (available in the official repositories). To install Numix GTK Theme, use the following command:

sudo apt install numix-gtk-theme

You can also download the official Linux Mint themes, including the new Mint Y Theme from Linux Mint 18, by using the links below:

mint-themes (youll also need libreoffice-style-mint because mint-themes depends on it, as well as mint-x-icons and mint-themes-gtk3, both linked below)
mint-themes-gtk3 (download the 3.18 version - its for GTK 3.18, available in Ubuntu 16.04)
mint-y-theme
mint-x-icons
mint-y-icons
cinnamon-themes

Note: to be able to install "libreoffice-style-mint", youll need to remove the "libreoffice-style-human" package, which is installed by default in Ubuntu 15.10.

To install them, download the deb files using the links above and place them in a folder - lets call it "deb" -, in your home directory (~/deb). Then use dpkg to install all the packages at once, using the following command:

sudo dpkg -i ~/deb/*.deb

2. Shutdown fix

In my test in Ubuntu 15.10, selecting "Quit" from the Cinnamon menu (which allows you to shutdown the computer) doesnt work properly - the dialog doesnt display any buttons other than "Cancel".

If you have this issue, fix it by using the following commands:

gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.session settings-daemon-uses-logind true
gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.session session-manager-uses-logind true
gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.session screensaver-uses-logind false

... and restart the session (logout or restart the system).

I should also mention that I didnt encounter this issue in Ubuntu 16.04.

How to revert the changes

There are two ways you can revert the changes made by using the PPA above to install Cinnamon: either completely remove Cinnamon 3.0 or you can downgrade the packages installed from the PPA and use the Cinnamon version available in the official Ubuntu repositories.

A) Completely remove Cinnamon 3.0

Firstly remove the PPA:

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/embrosyn-cinnamon*.list

Then, to completely remove Cinnamon, you can use the following command:

sudo apt purge cinnamon* libcinnamon* nemo* libnemo-extension1 cjs libcjs0e blueberry gir1.2-cinnamondesktop-3.0 gir1.2-meta-muffin-0.0 libmuffin0 muffin-common

You may then use "autoremove" to remove all the depedencies that were installed and are no longer required:

sudo apt autoremove

B) Purge the PPA

By purging the PPA, you can downgrade Cinnamon to the version available in the official Ubuntu repositories. You can do this with PPA Purge:

sudo apt install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:embrosyn/cinnamon

yes it does i have fixed 2.12.29 so it will work on any kernel and even on locked BL(no need to flash my kernel)

How To Root Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS 4 0 4 XWLPX

Yesterday I am posted about Manually updating Galaxy S2 to 4.0.4 using Odin. If your Galaxy S2 on 4.0.4 XWLPX and you want to grant root access then here it is.

After many searches i didnt find a direct method to root the 4.0.4 XWLPX update. Then i am searched for common ics rooting methods and i found the thread Samsung Quick Root - For SAMSUNG Devices at XDA forum. To root using Samsung Quick Root is very simple but you must flash a insecure Kernel before using the Samsung Quick Root.

Update:
Lot of people have problem with flashing insecure kernel and Samsung Quick Root. Now i updated the post with another root method. In this method you can root your GS2 without flashing any insecure kernel. The method is very simple you just install the root zip package from stock recovery. By installing this package you will get Root access ,CWM6 and SuperSu.

Now the post have two methods. Choose the method fit to you.
Method 1 : Root Using Zip Package ( Recommended )
Method 2 : Root with flashing insecure kernel and Samsung Quick Root

Warning : Rooting will void phones Warrenty ! Rooting / Flashing may brick your phone ! We are not responsible for any damage do at your risk !

Note:
1. Backup Importent Data
2. Enable USB debugging
3. Battery charge must be 60% or more
4. Phone must be Galaxy S2 I9100 on 4.0.4 XWLPX

Method 1 : Root 4.0.4 XWLPX With Zip Package

1. Download 4.0.4 XWLPX Root zip package from here
2. Copy the downloaded zip package XWLPX-ROOT-CWM6.zip to external SD card.
3. Switch off your phone and wait till vibrate.
4. Boot in to stock recovery ( Volume up + Home + Power )
5. In recovery select apply update from external storage.

6. Select copied zip file XWLPX-ROOT-CWM6.zip

7. After installation ....select reboot system now...

Thats it...Now you are successfully rooted Galaxy S2 4.0.4 XWLPX.

Method 2: Root 4.0.4 XWLPX with insecure kernel ans Samsung Quick Root

Flash Insecure Kernel On Galaxy S2 4.0.4 XWLPX

1. Download Odin from here and extract it.
2. Download kernel from here and extract it.
3. Open Odin in your PC.
4. Power off Galaxy s2.
5. Now boot the phone in to download mode. ( Press and hold : Volume down key and Home button ( Center button ) ,now press and hold the power button to boot in to download mode)
6. In download mode connect your phone to PC.
7. Now look in Odin... ID:COM box will be yellow with a port name and Added! message will be displayed.

8. In Odin..Click PDA and browse the downloaded kernel file PhilZ-cwm6-XWLPX-NEE-2.0.tar.md5 and Click Start.
9. After complete flash Odin will show PASS on top left and phone will reboot.

Thats it... If you have done everything correctly, you will notice a Yellow Triangle with an exclamation mark on the boot screen when the device is starting up. This indicates you are running an Insecure Kernel with Temp Root priviledges.

Root Galaxy S2 4.0.4 XWLPX

1. Download latest version of Samsung Quick Root from here and extract it.
2. Connect your mobile (keep in power on state) to PC.
3. Open Samsung Quick Root.
4. Click Root Device button and wait the phone to reboot.

Thats it...Now you are successfully rooted your device.

1. Download Super Nexus 2.0 BUILD 3 From XDA threadfrom here
2. Download Gapps for Jelly Bean from here
3. Copy both downloaded files to internal SD card.
4. Switch off your phone and wait till vibrate.
5. Boot in to Clockworkmod recovery ( Volume up + Home + Power )
6. Do a Wipe data/factory reset.
7. select install zip from sdcard.
8. select choose zip from internal sdcard.
9. select SuperNexus-2.0-i9100-BUILD3.zip and install..after installation.
10. select gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip and install...after installation.
11. select reboot system now.

Thats it wait till the phone reboots...!

Pasti sangat mengejutkan bagi Microsoft dan tim Intenet Explorer karena posisi nomer 1 nya selama 13 tahun berpindah ke Chrome.

GNOME Twitch 0 2 0 Adds Chat Feature Ubuntu PPA

GNOME Twitch was updated to version 0.2.0 recently, adding a much needed chat feature, along with various user interface improvements and bug fixes.

In case youre not familiar with Twitch.tv, this is a popular live streaming video platform that primarily focuses on video gaming. GNOME Twitch lets you play Twitch streams without Flash, browse games and channel lists, add favorite channels and change the video quality.

The latest GNOME Twitch 0.2.0 brings support for chat. To be able to see and/or join the conversation, youll need to log in to Twitch from the GNOME Twitch preferences.

For now, logging in to Twitch only allows using the chat feature (and its not possible to view the chat without logging in, but this should be fixed in a future release), while other features, like receiving notifications when a stream goes live, subscribing or following streams, and so on, are not yet supported.

An alternative to get notifications when the channels you follow go live is Twitch.tv Indicator.

You can add streams to your favorites in the app, even without logging in to Twitch though.

The chat implementation in GNOME Twitch supports displaying Twitch emotes, including subscriber, turbo, etc. badges, allows using a dark or light background and to set its opacity, width and height as well as to hide the chat.

Right now, the chat doesnt display the user list and links in chat are not clickable, but thats on the todo list.

I should also add that after logging in to Twitch, you need to restart GNOME Twitch to be able to use the chat feature.

Note that GNOME Twitch uses header bars (client-side decorations), so it will look out of place in Ubuntu (with Unity), at least with the default Ambiance theme (it looks ok with other themes, such as Numix or Greybird). Header bars were fixed in Ubuntu 16.04, but not for all applications and GNOME Twitch is of them (heres a screenshot in Ubuntu 16.04 with Ambiance theme).

According to the release notes, GNOME Twitch is still very much a work in progress and there are quite a few planned features, including support for followed streams, recording and taking stream screenshots, as well as using different player backends, such as mpv (this is partially implemented) and VLC.

Install GNOME Twitch in Ubuntu

The official GNOME Twitch PPA was discontinued because the application is now available in the official Ubuntu (and Debian) 16.04 repositories, though its an older version (0.1.0). Getdeb provides GNOME Twitch too, but it wasnt updated to version 0.2.0 at the time Im writing this article.

Because of this, I decided to upload the latest GNOME Twitch 0.2.0 to the main WebUpd8 PPA (using its official Debian packaging, with modifications for the latest release), for Ubuntu 15.10 and 16.04.

The application doesnt work in Ubuntu versions older than 15.10 because it requires GTK 3.16 or newer, which is not available by default in Ubuntu 15.04 or 14.04.

To add the main WebUpd8 PPA and install GNOME Twitch in Ubuntu 16.04 or 15.10 (and derivatives), use the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-twitch

If you dont want to add the PPA, you can grab the deb from HERE.

Note that in my test in Ubuntu 16.04, installing gstreamer1.0-vaapi (which provides hardware accelerated video decoding, encoding and processing via VA-API) caused frequent GNOME Twitch crashes. This might not be the case for you, but if the app crashes frequently, try removing the "gstreamer1.0-vaapi" package.

Hamachi Linux GUI Haguichi 1 3 0 Released With New UI

Haguichi, a Hamachi GUI for Linux, was updated to version 1.3.0 and with this release, the app has migrated from Mono and GTK2 to Vala and GTK 3 and uses a completely revamped user interface.

With the port to GTK3 (GTK 3.14 is required and thus, it needs Ubuntu 15.04 or newer), Haguichi has switched to using client side decorations however, desktops that dont fully support CSD, like Unity, are still supported and in such cases, a classic titlebar is displayed along with a toolbar (which has replaced the menu):

Just like in the previous releases, an AppIndicator is provided as an optional package.

Haguichi 1.3.0 also includes HiDPI support, a flexible layout (the UI adapts dynamically to the window size - see first two screenshots above), a sidebar that shows details and actions for the selected network or member, and a new logo.

Other changes in Haguichi 1.3.0:

added short text to empty network list on how to add a network;
added symbolic application and panel icons for adwaita-icon-theme;
commands that don’t actually exist are not shown as member action any more;
unicode characters are now used for ellipsis and quotation marks;
changed autostart .desktop file installation path back to /usr/etc/xdg/autostart;
dropped support for Hamachi version 2.1.0.81 and older;
removed deprecated status icon;
updated translations.

Along with this release, the Haguichi website was completely redesigned and a T-shirt campaign was launched.

For those not familiar with Hamachi, this is a zero-configuration virtual private network app, capable of establishing direct links between computers that are behind NAT firewalls without requiring reconfiguration (in most cases). Basically, the app establishes a connection over the Internet that emulates the connection that would exist if the computers were connected over a local area network.

Install Haguichi in Ubuntu or Linux Mint via PPA

To add the official Haguichi PPA and install the app in Ubuntu or Linux Mint (important note: the latest Haguichi 1.3.0 is only available for Ubuntu 15.04 and 15.10 because it requires GTK 3.14+; for older Ubuntu versions, Haguichi 1.0.26 will be installed, which uses Mono and GTK2), use the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/haguichi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install haguichi

To install the Haguichi Unity AppIndicator (it should be installed automatically with Haguichi, but Im adding this in case youre using an Ubuntu-based distro that doesnt install recommended packages by default, like Linux Mint), use the following command:

sudo apt-get install haguichi-indicator

- for Ubuntu 14.04 or 12.04:
