GIGABYTE’s 100 Series Motherboards Come With Intels USB3 1 Controller


At GIGABYTE we hope you are as excited as we are about the launch of our 100 series motherboards, based on the Intel® Z170 chipset with support for Intel’s new 6th Gen. Core™ processor.

One of the new features that our 100 series motherboards bring to the table is USB 3.1 over the USB Standard A connector and the new USB Type-C™ connector. Youve probably heard quite a bit on the USB Type-C connector and know already about how its making it easier to connect devices to it by being reversible and heard that it can be much more than a simple data transfer port.



As GIGABYTE is always on the lookout to bring the latest innovations to its new boards, with the 100 series motherboards we are introducing the WORLDS FIRST USB 3.1 solution powered by the new Intel USB3.1 controller, which provides much more bandwidth than others.

As mentioned one of the main advantage from the Intel USB 3.1 controller is its capacity to utilize 4 PCIe Gen3 lanes, therefore offering a total of up to 32 Gb/s of bandwidth. But of course specs are specs and actual performance may vary, so to demonstrate the increase of bandwidth weve put our working gloves on and put the two onboard fast ports to the test.



 
While having two USB3.1 devices connected and put under a full loading stress test, we were able a blazing 1725 Mb/read/write performance over the two USB3.1 ports! That is 2X the performance achieved than on other USB3.1 controller. 

For those doing storage intensive work such as media editing, this is a godsend. External storage drives are no longer bottlenecked by the motherboard’s connectivity. But increased bandwidth isnt the only benefit, USB 3.1 over both the Standard A and Type-C connector are also backward compatible with USB3.0 and 2.0 as well as support power delivery to charge up your mobile devices or external storage devices, making this Intel powered solution not only a blazing fast one but always one that is compatible with tens of thousands of devices out there!

Through the use of Intel’s USB 3.1 controller, GIGABYTE 100 series motherboards are able to rise above the competition and are the only choice for those that want to experience the full potential of USB 3.1.

Yay, Hardware Asylum podcast is out. In case you guys have not heard of these guys before, make sure you visit their website. I would describe them as a down to earth tech website/podcast geared towards a novice and pro level overclocker or enthusiast alike. The podcast is easy to follow and dissects fairly complex topics and talks about interesting hardware, developments and competitions in this particular episode.

GIGABYTE has been the leading market innovator in the dedicated overclocking motherboards and it’s good to see someone put it into perspective (i.e. overclocking boards existed well before our first series but there was no dedicated product serious which focuses features specifically towards enthusiasts and overclocking until GIGABYTE started it all some 5-6 years ago).

Gigabyte Motherboard Evolution
Reviewing motherboards isn’t always the easiest and every reviewer tends to look at different aspects.  Some are super critical of fan controls while others may only look at feature differences between an entire group.  The reviews at Hardware Asylum often focus on features and what makes the board special.  Some are designed for overclocking while others may cater to the gamer.  One thing Dennis has noticed over the years is that motherboard designs change based on what users are doing in the marketplace. 

A perfect example of this evolution is the Gigabyte OC products dedicated to overclocking.  Of course overclocking isn’t the only thing you can use these motherboards for but, the marketing has been designed such that overclocking is first.

The rouges gallery contains every “mainstream” OC motherboard that Gigabyte has produced staring with the X58A-OC and ending with the X99 SOC Force.  In the podcast Dennis mentions a few unicorns with even more to offer.

A Change to Live Overclocking Competitions
There was an article published on Hardware Asylum that talked about how overclocking competitions needed to change if they were to grow into a full ocSport.  Some of the points in the article included removing “bin” from the equation and changing the structure to be more of a game that challenged the overclocker to get the best score possible within a limited set of constraints, submit a score and then do it again.

In this segment Dennis and Darren discuss the new competition format and how it can actually make competitions better for everyone from the manufacturers making the hardware to the overclockers dedicating their time to the hobby/sport and the media struggling to find interest in this niche.

Hardware Asylum have little experience and information on our upcoming X99 SOC Champion board just yet but let’s just say that it will be continuing the legacy X58A-OC started. Incidentally, TeamAU broke another world record with this board today, the 3DMARK11. Here is the score and what this board has been used to achieve so far. There is going to be a heck of a lot more to come, stay tuned!

GIGABYTE Motherboards have Lowest RMA Rate at LDLC France


Every 6 months, the French website www.hardware.fr publishes a report on RMA rates for computer components from one of the main French online e-seller LDLC. The report includes statistics on motherboards, PSU, memory, graphics card, HDDs and SSDs. Looking at the RMA rate is a clear indicator of the hardware quality from one manufacturer.

Well, their latest report is out and we are very proud to announce that GIGABYTE Motherboards are once again performing the best!! Not only has the GIGABYTE Motherboards shown to have the lowest RMA rate amongst others, they have actually done so for the second consecutive year!
