How To Block Unwanted Calls on Android

Phones have come a long way now – earlier, the main purpose of a phone was to make calls but now, when smartphones are called minicomputers, that main purpose has just become a function. You can do dozens of tasks now on your Android like checking e-mails or social networks, doing calculations, playing games, taking pictures and much more. The amount of time you spend on your phone in a day doing all those things is way more than you use it for calling purpose.
To be honest, the calling function of a smartphone is kinda overlooked nowadays. But all that changes in an instant when you start getting unwanted calls and the situation gets worse when these callers (telemarketers, spammers, or a crazy ex-lover) are persistent. If this has become a problem for you, we are here to help. Today I’ll share with you how to block unwanted calls on your Android device.
The majority of smartphone manufacturers add an option to block calls. Since the process to block calls varies from manufacturer to manufacturer I’ll write down abouthow to block calls on phones by all major manufacturers.
  • Motorola
  1. Open the Contacts app
  2. Select the contact to block (create a contact with the unwanted number if not listed)
  3. Tap the three-dot menu icon
  4. Select All calls to voicemail
  • Samsung
  1. Open the Phone app
  2. Select More
  3. Go to Settings > Call blocking
  4. Add numbers to the Block list
  • LG
  1. Open the Phone app
  2. Tap the three-dot menu icon
  3. Go to Settings > Call reject > Reject calls from
  4. Tap the (+) icon to add numbers
  • Nexus
  1. Open the Phone app
  2. Go to the call log
  3. Select a number to block
  4. Tap the three-dot menu icon
  5. Select Add to reject list
That “adding number to voicemail” trick from Motorola also works with Nexus devices. I guess it’s because of the use of Stock Android on both devices.
  • HTC
  1. Open the Phone app
  2. Go to Call history
  3. Long-press a number from the list
  4. Select Block contact or Block caller
Don’t worry if your device manufacturer wasn’t listed above. You still can block unwanted calls on your device by using third-party call blockers. Here are 2 of the most awesome call blockers for Android.

Truecaller

3
Truecaller is a hugely popular third-party call blocker, especially here, in India. Upon installing, you’ll have to setup your account by submitting your phone number or you can directly signup with Google, LinkedIn, or Facebook. You can either search for a number or block a number via Truecaller. It has a huge list of spam phone numbers (like that of telemarketers) which, once enabled, will stop most of the telemarketers from boring you to death. Other numbers, that are reported by the community as spam, are also blocked; so that’s that.

Mr. Number

4
Unlike Truecaller, Mr. Number does not require much setup. It relies on a community of users to create a blacklist. Other than the user created a universal blacklist, you can also add your own numbers to block. Once the protection is active there’s not much for you to do, and that’s the beauty of Mr. Number.

How to highlight and copy text on sites that block it

How to highlight and copy text on sites that block it

Every now and then I come across sites on the Internet that prevent you from copying some or all of the text displayed to the clipboard, or even selecting it in first place using the mouse or keyboard.
I noticed this on a banks site recently for example where I was not allowed to copy the bank account number to the clipboard.
This guide looks at methods to overcome the limitation put in place by websites on the Internet. But first, why do sites implement these restrictions in first place?
While reasons are provided by companies and individuals who implement the functionality on their web properties, the most likely reason is some form of copy protection.
Method 1: Turn off JavaScript
javascript
Most websites use JavaScript to block mouse functionality. If you turn off JavaScript on the site temporarily or even permanently, you will be able to copy text displayed on it using the mouse.
Some websites rely on JavaScript on the other hand which means that you may run into issues doing so. Some may even refuse to display at all when JavaScript is turned off.
  • Firefox users can press F12, there on the preferences icon to disable JavaScript in the menu that opens.
  • Chrome users can disable JavaScript in the Content settings: chrome://settings/content
  • Internet Explorer users can turn off JavaScript in Internet Option > Security > Zone > Custom Level > Active Scripting
  • Opera users can disable JavaScript under Websites in the Opera settings: opera://settings/
Extensions like NoScript can be useful in this regard as they block the execution of scripts as well.
Method 2: The source
source
Another option that you have is to display the source code of the website you are on. Since it is displayed in a plain text editor it is possible to copy anything from it without restriction.
Simply press Ctrl-u while you are on the site to display its source code. This works in most browsers including Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer.
It is still necessary to find the text or content that you are looking for in the source. Use Ctrl-f to jump directly to it.
There you may also find links to images and other contents that you could not save or copy.
Method 3: Extensions and scripts
The third and final option is most suitable if you encounter sites regularly that prohibit right-click use or text copying when you are on them, and if the methods outlined above dont work or are not really suitable.
RightToClick for Firefox disables JavaScript annoyances such as forbidding right-clicks or text selection on sites.
RightToCopy for Chrome offers similar features.
You find numerous extensions for these two browsers that remove annoyances on websites.
